A new arts complex currently being built in Colchester, England
A crescent-shaped building for the Colchester Visual Arts Facility, is one of the latest offerings from Rafael Vinoly Architects. Artworks are to be shown in galleries in the centre of the building and in the main circulation corridor along the crescent’s outer arc. Floor level window strips provide light in the corridor, diffusing sunlight and protecting the art on display. A gift shop, auditorium, classrooms, offices and restaurant with outdoor terrace complete the building, which is clad externally in a copper and aluminium alloy, with double-folded standing seam detailing that yields a distinctive chevron pattern.
